The University term "tuition" refers to the comprehensive per-credit-hour rate which includes funding for instructional programs, academic services and activities, as well as auxiliary funding of $125.69 per credit hour for recreational sports, student activities, and intercollegiate athletics.

Active Duty Military Rate
|Effective Fall 2018, a Military Tuition Rate will be available for eligible undergraduate active duty military personnel enrolled in degree or non-degree seeking, for-credit courses offered on campus or online.

NOTE: Students who identify as active duty military on the admission application will have their active duty status verified by the Registrar's Office. If an eligible student does not receive the military tuition rate, they should email email@example.com for assistance.
ODU will verify active-duty military status using the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website. We must be able to verify that the student is on active-duty on the date verified and in one of the following Service Components: Army Active Duty; Coast Guard Active Duty; Air Force Active Duty; Marine Corps Active Duty; or Navy Active Duty. Please note that other Service Components, including Reserve and National Guard are not eligible for the reduced tuition rate.
|Technology Delivered courses Outside Virginia and/or the United States
|Rate applicable to students enrolled in courses delivered via technology outside of Virginia and/or the United States.

|NOTE: Distance Learning students who relocate to Virginia are not guaranteed the in-state tuition rate. Normal domicile rules apply.
If a student wishes to use Chapter 31 or Chapter 33:
The University will defer students' semester charges. These semester charges will be deferred a minimum of 90 days from the tuition deadline. Charges not covered by the VA must be paid by the tuition deadline to prevent penalty fees. Penalties will not be imposed on charges covered by the VA, but may be imposed on charges that are past due and not covered by the VA.

Selected Mandatory Fees
|Technology Delivered Course Fee - $30 per credit hour
A technology fee will be charged to students taking technology delivered courses to cover the costs of providing these courses.
Mandatory - Fee applicable to all students taking technology delivered courses. This fee is not subject to waivers.
|Student Transition Fee -
|The New Student Transition Fee will be assessed to all new degree-seeking, non-distance undergraduate students and covers orientation and other transition-to-college programming.
The fee will be included in the tuition billing statement and is due by tuition deadline.
|Mandatory - Fees applicable to all new degree-seeking, non-distance undergraduate students. This fee is not subject to waivers.
|General Services Fee - $9.00
|All students pay this fee each semester, regardless of the number of classes taken. This fee replaced the graduation fee, per course drop fees, reinstatement fees, matriculation fees, and the University Catalog fee.
|Mandatory- Fees applicable to all students regardless of domiciliary classification. The fee is not subject to waivers.
|Student Health Fee - $110.00
Summer optional ($50.00)
|The Student Health Fee is mandatory for students meeting the criteria below:
Undergraduate students taking 6 or more credit hours must pay this fee each semester.
Graduate students taking 6 or more credit hours must pay this fee each semester.
The fee is not charged for students taking all off-campus courses. If any courses are officially designated as Norfolk Campus courses, then the fee is mandatory.

This fee is optional in the summer.
|Transportation Fee - $59.00
Not charged in Summer Sessions
|The transportation fee is paid once each semester by all students. However, no fee is charged during the summer term. The fee is charged for students taking courses officially designated as Norfolk campus courses.
If any courses are officially designated as Norfolk campus courses, then the transportation fee is mandatory.
|Mandatory - Fees applicable to all students, including those enrolled in student teaching, dissertation, theses, and GRAD 999 unless otherwise noted. This fee is not charged in the summer.
|ID Card Fee - $2 per semester
|The ID Card Fee is mandatory for all students. The fee covers the Card Center services, equipment, and operating costs.
|Mandatory - Fees applicable to all students. This fee is not subject to waivers.
|Fees may be assessed to students based on their enrollment in specific courses to cover the cost of laboratory support, other materials, or private lessons.
|Fees vary - Fees are identified with courses listed in the course catalog.
|International Student Fee - $35.00 per semester
|The International Student Fee is mandatory for students attending the University on a student visa. This fee covers the administrative services associated with non-immigrant visa compliance and other related services.

International Student Health Insurance (F & J Visa Holders)

Health insurance charges are posted directly to the student's billing statement and are due on the tuition deadlines for the academic year. International students have the option of participating in the University's Payment Plan available in Fall and Spring semesters only.

Spring Semester & Summer (Jan-July) TBD - cost details will be released soon. Charges due by Spring tuition deadline.
Non-credit students enrolled in the English Language Center Program will be charged based on the session. Tuition and fees for non-credit programs are due at the time of enrollment.
