MGMT 621:
Strategic Management
This course introduces students to the discipline of strategic management and discusses concepts/theories/frameworks that are used in the formulation and implementation of strategies. Additionally, students discuss cases, simulation and examples that describe the strategic issues confronting organizations and how they successfully |or unsuccessfully) resolved them. The course should help students develop a disciplined, rigorous, and comprehensive approach to analyzing firm environment and resources and formulating and implementing strategy. In addition, the course should help students understand the challenges and common pitfalls involved in strategy formulation and implementation. Prerequisites: Admission to the MBA Program and completion of 20 hours of core credit hours of the MBA curriculum.
MKTG 617:
Marketing Strategy
This course will build on the fundamentals developed in MKTG 608. It will focus on developing skills to formulate and implement marketing strategies for brands and companies. Marketing mix strategies, segmentation, targeting, and positioning strategies, as well as competitive strategies and contemporary issues in marketing strategy will be discussed. Decision-making skills will be enhanced using case analyses in addition to readings and discussions. Prerequisites: Admission to the MBA Program, MKTG 608, MBA 600, MBA 601, MBA 602, MBA 603, and MBA 604.
BNAL 610:
Fundamentals of Business Analytics
This course provides students with some common tools and techniques that are deployed in business analytics. Topics include big data and related terminology, data management, working with data, and statistical and quantitative methods used in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics. Prerequisites: Admission to the MBA Program, MBA 600, MBA 601, MBA 602, MBA 603, and MBA 604.
Requirements
What are the requirements to apply for Business Administration at ODU?
Students entering the BSBA+MBA program in Business Administration should meet the minimum university admission requirements (Undergraduate Admission)
Prospective students should complete the GMAT at least two semesters prior to the semester in which they wish to enroll. Applications to the MBA program should be submitted online following published deadlines in order to begin coursework in the desired semester. When completing the application for admission, students need to select an official admission date that is the semester immediately following their anticipated undergraduate graduation. Students interested in the program should contact the MBA Program Office as early as possible to discuss their plans for early entry.
A potential candidate will have:
Achieved a minimum Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score of 550
Completed all lower-level general education requirements
Completed at least 24 credit hours at ODU with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
A minimum index of 1200 (index is computed as 200 times the ODU GPA plus GMAT score)
Students who have done exceptionally well in their undergraduate coursework may qualify for a GMAT waiver. These candidates will have:
- Completed all lower-level general education requirements
- Completed at least 24 credit hours at ODU with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5
- Achieved junior standing

The Dr. Bruce L. Rubin Endowed MBA Scholarship
The recipient will be a newly-admitted and enrolled part-time student in the MBA program at the Strome College of Business, with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2, and a GMAT total score of at least 600 if taken, unless testing requirement is waived by the admissions committee. Preference is given to a student who demonstrates volunteer service to the local business community. Candidates are selected during the admissions application process, so no additional application is required. A competitive admissions portfolio will serve as application for the scholarship.
The James A. Hixon Endowed Scholarship
The recipient will demonstrate need and be enrolled part-time or full-time in the MBA program at the Strome College of Business and Public Administration, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. In the event of a larger than normal applicant pool, the student with the highest GPA and demonstrating the greatest financial need will be selected.
Merit-based Scholarships
Newly-admitted and current students in the Strome College of Business MBA program may qualify for merit-based scholarships based on GPAs and GMAT test scores. No additional application is necessary. These scholarships are in addition to University scholarships.
Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistantships provide a stipend of $3,200 in both the fall and spring semesters. For international and out-of-state students, there is also a tuition waiver for nine (9) credit hours bringing tuition to in-state rates.
