Our program carries a particular emphasis in PLM solutions for the collaborative data environment. Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is an integrated, information-driven approach to all aspects of a product’s life from design inception to manufacture, deployment, maintenance, and disposal at the end of its useful life.

MEDIAN SALARY
Assist mechanical engineers in such activities as generation, transmission, or use of mechanical or fluid energy. Prepare layouts of machinery or equipment or plan the flow of work. May conduct statistical studies or analyze production costs.
MEDIAN SALARY
Apply theory and principles of mechanical engineering to modify, develop, test, or calibrate machinery and equipment under direction of engineering staff or physical scientists.
MEDIAN SALARY
Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.
MEDIAN SALARY
Prepare detailed working diagrams of machinery and mechanical devices, including dimensions, fastening methods, and other engineering information.
Rigorous development of the macroscopic theory of thermodynamics; structural basis for equations of state and general properties of matter; phase and chemical equilibria. Prerequisites: MAE 601 or MATH 691.
Stress-strain relations for a lamina; failure theories. Micro-mechanical behavior of a lamina. Constitutive relations of a laminate. Bending, buckling and vibration of laminated plates. Approximate and finite element methods of solution. Prerequisites: MAE 607.
This course will introduce the engineering of industrial robots used for manufacturing automation. Topics to be covered include spatial descriptions and transformations of manipulators, manipulator kinematics and inverse kinematics; manipulator velocities; static forces; and dynamics and trajectory generation. Other topics to be covered include design and on-line computer control of the manipulator.
Students entering the Master of Engineering program in Mechanical Engineering should meet the minimum university admission requirements (Graduate Admission)
The applicant must have earned an undergraduate degree from an accredited university in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related discipline, such as physics or mathematics, and must also meet Old Dominion University’s general requirements for admission.
Applicants with degrees in disciplines other than mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering are required to complete up to three leveling courses. A remedial study plan will be designed for the applicant by the GPD in order to prepare the student for graduate work in the shortest possible time. The selected courses are subject to satisfying the prerequisites listed in the catalog. If an applicant already has a minor in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering, then no leveling courses are necessary.
Estimated rates for the 2022-23 academic year. Rates are subject to change. Anyone that is not a current Virginia resident will be charged non-resident rates. That includes international students.
