Be Your Own Boss (BYOB)

The BYOB speaker series is focused on providing insights and expertise from entrepreneurs who have chosen to be their own boss. BYOB, which stands for Be Your Own Boss will highlight business owners, entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers who decided to start their own business venture. From restaurants to retail and everything in between, this speaker series will be an interesting discussion about business, the journey to success and how to overcome the trials and tribulations of being an entrepreneur.

BYOB is hosted free of charge on various Tuesdays throughout the semester from 12:30-1:30pm at the SEC and is open to the public.

Opportunity Discovery Competition

Old Dominion University’s Strome College of Business, in partnership with the Strome Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, is rewarding problem solving and creative thinking among university students with its inaugural Opportunity Discovery Competition. Submissions for the competition will provide winners with up to $2,000 to further a product, program, idea, business venture or non-profit pitched to a panel of judges.

ODU Company Expo

The ODU Company Expo is a fun and interactive way to meet ODU students, faculty, staff and alumni who are operating their own business ventures. From service-based offerings to handcrafted products, a variety of different businesses participate in this event each semester to showcase who they are and what they do. Come support our ODU entrepreneurs at the ODU Company Expo.

ODU Company Expo is hosted each semester (Fall and Spring) and is open for the public to attend.

Lunch & Learn

The Lunch & Learn workshop series provides an opportunity for participants to learn a new skill during their lunch break. From the basics of franchising to understanding the ins and outs of patenting a product, this workshop will provide entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs with lessons and information to assist them in bettering their business. This workshop is typically more interactive and hands-on so come prepared to be engaged!

Lunch & Learn is hosted free of charge on various Tuesdays throughout the semester from 12:30-1:30pm at the SEC and is open to the public.

Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame

The ODU Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame event is an annual celebration of successful entrepreneurs and innovators including both ODU alumni and community members. Each year four entrepreneurs are induced into the Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame and one Entrepreneur of the Year is named for their outstanding impact and success.

This annual event is in the fall of each year.

Notable Nonprofits & B Corps

The Notable Nonprofits & B Corps speaker series showcases regional nonprofits and puts a spotlight on social entrepreneurship and innovation. This series will provide participants with insights about the nonprofit industry and B Corp designation, the journey into social entrepreneurship and it will also debunk some misconceptions about how not-for-profit and B Corps run their businesses. Each week a different nonprofit or benefit corporation will provide an inside look at the work they do and how these ideas became a much larger movement.

ODU Lion’s Lair Innovation Competition

The ODU Lion's Lair Innovation Competition is a fun and competitive innovation pitch competition geared towards new, startup companies and ideas in the Hampton Roads region. This annual competition is open to the entire community and seeks to reward innovative traditional and social impact ideas.
