NVivo

Overview

NVivo is a sophisticated piece of software used for qualitative research analysis. It allows researchers to collect, organize and analyze content from a wide range of mixed-methods data (including interviews, focus group discussions, surveys, audio, social media data, YouTube videos and web pages). The level of in-depth qualitative analysis NVivo provides is unmatched by traditional analysis methods.

NVivo can import data directly to and from SPSS, the standard quantitative research software used by many social science researchers. It also integrates seamlessly with EndNote to support systematic reviews of literature.

Available To:

NVivo is available to all ODU faculty, staff and students, but especially benefits anyone who has to collect and analyze qualitative data.

The version available for download on this page is for students or faculty/staff home use only. On ODU-managed computers, download the software from the Ivanti Portal Manager (Windows) or Jamf Self Service (Mac).

Where To Get It:

Download NVivo by clicking on a download button above. The .exe (Windows) or .pkg (Mac) file will download after you log in with your MIDAS ID and password. The license is included in the software package, but it must be renewed every year. If you get a warning that your license is about to expire, you only need to download the license updater, rather than the entire software package.

The software is also available in the Monarch Virtual Environment, SCB Desktop pool (available to Strome College of Business faculty and declared business majors at the graduate level) and College of Education pool.

On ODU-managed computers, download the software from the Ivanti Portal Manager (Windows) or Jamf Self Service (Mac).

Platform Requirements

  • Windows (Download above, or access in MOVE SCB pool)
