Dr. Melvina Sumter Wins Joel S. Lewis Faculty Award

Dr. Melvina Sumter won the College of Arts & Letters Joel S. Lewis Faculty Award for Excellence in Student Mentoring 2018!

Melvina is responsible for our annual Department Career Fair, Professional and Personal Development Series, and local chapter of NABCJ that includes significant outreach to local communities. Melvina's materials included letters from former students Dianne Berger-Hill and Frank Wood. Dianne chronicled Melvina's support for and mentorship of her from the BS, work with NABCJ, Study Abroad and Community Justice programs, through her master's degree and work with us as an outstanding Adjunct Faculty member. Frank did much the same closing with "As I recollect my arduous journey through academia, I am thankful and blessed to have been introduced to Dr. Sumter, for without her mentorship and continued guidance and support, the course of my life would have been paved in a completely different manner." Thank you Melvina.
