This page provides additional information on the required and optional steps that students need to take to complete their enrollment at Old Dominion University. Students will need to complete all pre-enrollment tasks as identified on the Admitted Student Checklist in the MyODU portal.
Students can find information about activating their MIDAS, registering for Monarch Orientation, placement testing, academic advising preparation, immunization records, and the campus experience.
Activate Your MIDAS
MIDAS is ODU's log-in and password management system. Your MIDAS ID and password will be used to log into most University applications and services such as email, myODU, Leo Online, Banner and many other important resources.
To activate your MIDAS, you will need your University Identification Number (UIN). This is the 8-digit number located on your acceptance letter. Students can activate their MIDAS by visiting midas.odu.edu.

How to Access the Admitted Student Checklist
Register for Monarch Orientation
Monarch Orientation is ODU's new student orientation program designed for students to learn about campus resources, engage in school traditions, connect with Monarch Orientation Leaders and other new Monarchs, meet with an academic advisor, and register for classes. Students will need to have their MIDAS ID in order to register for Monarch Orientation.
Freshmen and transfers with 23 or fewer credits are required to participate in Monarch Orientation. Transfers with 24 or more credits can choose to attend Mini Monarch Orientation.REGISTER NOW
Writing Success Placement Tool (WSPT)
All students, including those admitted test optional, must complete the Writing Success Placement Tool.
Exemptions: Students who have already earned or anticipate earning English 110C credit (including AP, IP, and dual enrollment) may be exempt from completing the placement test. Transcripts with credit must be provided to the Office of Admissions.

Math requirements are determined by program of study. Math placement is determined by ODU's math placement test, high school GPA, or SAT / ACT scores. Official scores must be to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions prior to being placed in a math course.

In order to register for CHEM 121N, students must meet the following prerequisites:
- Math 102M or 103M with a grade of C or better or placement into Math 162M or higher and
- One of the following:
- CHEM 103 with a grade of C or better
- CHEM 105N with a grade of C or better
- Score of 3 or better on the Chemistry Placement Exam
- Score of 80% or better on the Chemistry Review Modules Final Exam
Academic Advising Preparation
The full list of Academic Colleges and Majors is located on page 10 of the Big Blue Book. Students can change their major in the orientation reservation system. Students will meet with an academic advisor based on their major indicated in the orientation reservation system.
- Curriculum sheets show a four-year guided plan of study for degree programs (aka major) at Old Dominion University.
- The Undergraduate Catalog contains university rule, policies and regulation, information about courses as well as the requirements of Old Dominion University, its schools and colleges, and for the academic programs offered by them. Students are held individually responsible for the information contained in the Undergraduate Catalog.
Students will need to familiarize themselves with university systems in order to be successful.
- Student Email - The student email is account is activated automatically upon creation of the MIDAS ID. Student email is provided through Gmail and serves as the official electronic mail system for all University-related communications, policies, announcements, tuition bills and other information.
- Banner XE - The online course registration system. In Banner XE, students can search, register for and drop classes. Students can access Banner XE through Leo Online.
- DegreeWorks - A system that identifies courses that fulfill degree requirements for your major, displays graduation requirments already met, and those remaining to complete.
- Leo Online - ODU's student and employee information system. It contains a student's official record, including personal information, grades, transcripts, billing, and more. Students can grant proxy access through Leo Online.
Holds are blocks placed on student accounts that require resolution prior to registering for courses.
All incoming undergraduate degree seeking students will have an advising hold (AD hold) placed on their account. This hold will be removed when a student meets with their academic advisor.
For students participating in Monarch Orientation, your hold will be removed during the program. Please do not contact your academic advisor prior to attending Monarch Orientation to have this hold lifted.Complete List of Holds
Tuition and Billing
The University term "tuition" refers to a per-credit-hour comprehensive rate that includes payment for instructional programs, academic services and activities, recreational sports, and intercollegiate athletics which includes a student activity fee per credit hour. Tuition rates are subject to change per term. Use the ODU cost calculator to estimate the cost of attendance for the upcoming semester. This site is updated as rates and fees are adjusted.
ODU does not send paper bills. Billing statements are sent to the student's ODU email address. Acceptable forms of payment include personal check, money order, credit/debit cards, and cash.
Students can view their account in Leo Online. This account allows viewing and paying charges, setting up a payment plan, and viewing disbursed financial aid. From here, you may also print a copy of the billing statement. Students are also assigned a billing representative based on the first letter of their last name. Please contact your billing representative with billing statement questions.
Financial Aid & FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form completed by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. This online form should be submitted each year a student is enrolled in a full-time course load. The FAFSA is available beginning October 1st. Financial Aid award packages are prioritized according to FAFSA submission date.
Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment to speak with a Financial Aid representative to learn more about their award and cost of attendance as they prepare for their ODU experience. Students will have the opportunity to speak with a Financial Aid counselor during their Monarch Orientation session.
Students planning to take classes on the Norfolk campus must send immunization records to Student Health Services. Immunization records are due by August 1 for students starting in the Fall 2022 term. Students who miss the deadline will have a hold placed on their account and will be unable to register for their second semester.Immunization Requirements and Monarch Wellness Portal

Applying for Housing
Students who plan to live on campus must complete the application for housing. Please note all on-campus freshmen will be enrolled in the All-Access meal plan.Apply for Housing
