Description
The commonwealth of Virginia and major stakeholders in Hampton Roads (including ODU) have created a regional public-private coalition, The Resilience Partnership, whose purpose is to re-invent the region around a shared understanding of how to live with water, in response to on-going environmental changes. The coalition will surface, test and refine the best strategies for building water resilient communities across a range of environments by developing a model seaport region that derives its economic vitality from the water. To support this effort, Virginia is currently applying for assistance through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under the National Disaster Resiliency Competition to support innovative resilience projects at the local level.Participation in the effort is broad based, bringing together multiple state and federal agencies, local governments, institutions of higher education, community groups and private sector partners. The state is seeking input from the public for the resiliency plan proposal and will hold a public hearing on March 10. Anyone is welcome to attend and comment.
