Fitness Classes

Join in the fun!

Inclusive Variety

Certified instructors provide a variety of group exercise classes for all fitness levels! People of all backgrounds and fitness levels make up our group exercise community. Each class and instructor value inclusion to help motivate you to reach your personal goals.

Class Cost

Classes are FREE for all Recreation & Wellness members! See the membership page for more information on starting a membership if you are not currently a member.


Location

We are offering in-person classes at the ODU Student Recreation Center. Virtual classes are available on our Youtube channel.

Registration

Register through the ODU Rec Well app or online via the Rec Well Portal. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the class. You can also cancel your registration on the Rec Well Portal.

Group Fitness Policies

Late Policy

If a fitness class is full and you do not arrive before the listed start time, your spot will be given to the next person on the waitlist.

No-Show Policy Effective February 1st, 2023

Fitness classes have a finite number of spots available. To be fair to all participants, if you do not cancel and do not show up to a class, you are considered a "no-show" participant. If you no-show three times in one semester, you will lose your online program registration privileges for a week.

Class Descriptions

 Ab Attack

Strength & Conditioning

This 30-minute workout will torch your core and glutes! Instructors will guide you through a strength and conditioning class using a variety of methods and tools to challenge all fitness levels.

 Barre

Mind & Body

Utilizing your body weight, hand weights, bands, mats and other equipment, instructors will incorporate techniques from Yoga, Pilates, and traditional ballet to provide you with a fun and challenging workout. Small movements combined with fast-paced exercises and great music make for the perfect workout that leaves you feeling great.

 Cycle

Cardio

Cycling is a fun, high energy cardio workout! This class can combine any variety of endurance, strength, intervals, and recovery. Your instructor will use uplifting music and imagery to guide you through class. You will always decide if and when to challenge yourself throughout the ride. Open to all fitness levels!

 Dance Fitness

Cardio & Dance

Dance Fitness will encourage you to move, break a sweat, and learn about a variety of dance styles! This choreography-based class is packed with fun and will have beginners feeling like professionals in no time! Each month will feature a different theme and all experience levels are welcome.

 HIIT Bootcamp

Strength & Conditioning

Maximize your time with this High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) class. Using all sorts of equipment and training styles, expect bursts of cardio and strength training paired with short, active recovery periods for a well rounded workout that leaves you feeling strong and sweaty! All fitness levels are welcome.

 Kickboxing

Cardio

Strike, punch, and kick your way to greater cardio fitness! This class is packed with real kickboxing moves, bodyweight exercises, and some of the best music. You'll leave every class sweaty and ready to conquer anything!

 Pilates

Mind & Body

Pilates is a core class designed to train strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture. The focus is on muscles of the core and those that attach to the spine, front and back - called the "Powerhouse" in Pilates.

 Meditation & Breath

Mind & Body

In these practices, specific rhythms of the breath will allow participants to eliminate stress, revitalize the nervous system, and bring clarity and focus to the mind quickly and easily. No experience is necessary, and all are welcome.

 Mixxed Fit

Cardio & Dance

MixxedFit© is a people-inspired dance fitness program. It is a mix of explosive dancing and body weight exercises to help you tone and sculpt your way through each song. You will hear multiple genres of music from hip hop, pop, rock, reggae, and everything in between, making the class fly by. During this 60 min class, you will experience a workout that is not only easy to follow but makes fitness FUN.

 Stability & Mobility

Mind & Body

This class is perfect for those interested in establishing balance between strength, movement, and flexibility. Using a combination of multiple methods, you will build a strong core, relieve pain, and improve movement quality.

 Synrgy360 Circuit

Strength & Conditioning

Revolve around our Synrgy360 rig from station to station and try out the different functional exercises, all under expert tuition and guidance of a trainer. Perfect if you want to enjoy a great workout that utilizes the equipment and endless options the Synrgy offers!

 Total Body Stretch

Mind & Body

Join us for an hour of stretch and relaxation. After an hour of stretching and relaxation techniques you will leave this class rejuvenated!

 Total Body Tone

Strength & Conditioning

TBT is a unique workout that targets the entire body. Using creative muscle-toning exercises, each class will target the upper body, lower body, and core to deliver a well-rounded workout.

 Yoga Flow

Mind & Body

Vinyasa Flow yoga emphasizes the sequential movement between postures, coordinated with and guided by deliberate breath. There is a heightened focus on linking conscious breath with mindful fluid movement. Expect a fully balanced class of forward bending, twists, backbends with opportunity for inversions. All levels are welcome to join!

 Yoga For All

Mind & Body

A mind/body focused class that combines the precision of postural Yoga with modern functional fitness and exercise. It can be practiced by any participant with an overall goal of improving fitness, flexibility, and focus in a relaxing environment. Various asanas (poses) will work to improve both body alignment and kinesthetic awareness and leave you feeling strong, capable, and in control of your range of motion. All classes incorporate different relaxation techniques to center and calm. All levels are welcome!

 Zumba

Cardio & Dance

This interval-style dance fitness party that combines low-intensity and high-intensity moves with red-hot music and dance that will get the party started. You'll be having way too much fun to realize you're working out!

Can't make a class you registered for? Open your spot for someone else by canceling your registration! It's easy to do:

  • Visit the Rec Well Portal & sign into your account
  • Click on your user icon in the top right
  • Click "Profile"
  • Click "Programs" in the left menu
  • Under registrations, find the class you wish to cancel and click the three dots on the right
  • Click "Cancel Registration"
