The Monarch Esports Arena (MEA) is a multi-purpose facility with 2,400+ sq. ft. of gaming space that is the home to ODU's Varsity Esports teams and much more. The MEA features 50 gaming computers, consoles, and a library of games to choose from. The arena also features a broadcast and streaming studio, as well as a console area for relaxing, social gaming.
The MEA hosts various special programs, on-campus events, and is available for reservation during specific periods. Because the facility serves multiple roles and populations, there is a possibility that functions of the space overlap. See Rec Well Facility Reservations for policy info.

PLAYER RECRUITMENT & TEAM TRYOUTS
High School and Transfer Students
- High school and transfer students interested in ODU's Varsity Esports teams should complete the following form: High School and Transfer Gamer Profile
Eligibility
- All current ODU students must complete the Esports Gamer Profile form to be eligible for tryouts.
- Several game titles require a specific rank to be eligible for the tryout. Players that fall below the specified rank can still be part of junior varsity level teams or the ODU Esports Club.
Tryouts
Player Interest FormTryouts for 2023-2024 are hosted online in June & July 2023. If your game is not listed below, don't worry, you can still compete by joining or starting a team in the ODU Gaming Club. Tryouts are invite only and applications will be prioritized that meet our rank guidelines listed under each team. Click the button above to submit your application. Weekday tryout times are 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. EST and weekend tryout times are 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. EST.
League of Legends
- Dates: June 27th - July 1st
- Diamond Rank Minimum
- Format: 3 days of tryouts, each session will be administered by a coach. Exact days are TBD. Coaches will make final roster decisions.
Overwatch
- Dates: June 27th - July 1st
- Diamond Rank Minimum

- Dates: June 27th - July 1st
- MG1 Rank Minimum
- Format: 3 days of tryouts, each session will be administered by a coach. Exact days are TBD. Coaches will make final roster decisions.
Valorant
- Date: July 10th - July 15th
- Ascendant Rank Minimum
- Format: 3 days of tryouts, each session will be administered by a coach. Exact days are TBD. Coaches will make final roster decisions.
Rocket League
- Date: June 27th - July 1st
- Grand Champion Rank Minimum
- Format: 3 days of tryouts, each session will be administered by a coach. Exact days are TBD. Coaches will make final roster decisions.
Super Smash Bros
- Online Tournament: July 1st
- In-Person Tournament: July 15th
- No Rank Minimum
- Format: Two tournaments will be held to conduct tryouts (Swiss into a Double Elim Bracket). One will be online and the other will be in person.
