From Science to Policy: Regional Perspectives on Water Resources
The connection between science and policy is fundamental to effect change for any environmental challenge. As an OES
alum, Filippino will reflect on her unconventional career path, steeped in research and motivated by big picture
concerns. The goal is to provide an overview of a unique education and career path, explain the role of a Planning
District Commission in Virginia, and touch on the many ways water resources impact research and policy. Some
highlights include issues related to climate change, sea level rise, stormwater, local water quality, and the Chesapeake
The Ocean & Earth Sciences departmental seminar informs students, staff, faculty and the University community about recent issues. For more than 40 years, the series has fostered connection among current and future professionals. Seminars are held most Thursdays at 3 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters.
