Individuals seeking an initial educational license in Virginia must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. If an individual attended a college or university outside the United States of America, an evaluation must be completed by one of the agencies listed at the link provided by the Virginia Department of Education.

LiveText All students in an initial licensure or advanced professional preparation of school personnel are required to purchase the LiveText Student Membership Standard Edition upon enrolling/registering for their first Education class. LiveText is a web-based portfolio assessment system, approved by the Old Dominion Unviersity Teacher Education Council.

TEACH Grant A TEACH Grant can help you pay for college if you plan to become a teacher in a high-need field. Through the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, Congree created the Teach Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program.

Praxis Core Tests The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educator Tests are required to be admitted into a state-approved teacher education preparation program. The student must pass each Praxis Core Academic Skill test to be admitted. Praxis Core Academic Skills Equivalent Scores are approved per Virginia Board of Education. The Praxis I was discontinued in Virginia effective January 1, 2014. Praxis I tests completed with a passing score by December 31, 2013 will continue to be valid and accepted for admission into a state-approved teacher education program.

Professional Disposition Survey Candidates must complete the professional disposition survey as part of the requirements for admission into an approved teacher education program.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training All graduate students must complete the RCR prior to earning 12 graduate credits. Undergraduate Teacher Education Admission Interview The undergraduate teacher education admission interview is one of the requirements for admission into the undergraduate approved teacher education programs.

Praxis Subject Assessments (formerly Praxis II) All Candidates are required to take and pass the prescribed Praxis Subject Assessments (formerly Paxis II) for their respective teacher education preparation program. RVE Test Candidates seeking initial licensure in Early/Primary Education PreK-3, Elementary Education PreK-6, Special Education-General Curriculum, Special Education-Hearing Impairments, and SPecial Education-Visual Impairments, the required reading assessment is the Reading for Virginia Educators: Elementary and Special Education (RVE).
Candidates seeking an endorsment as a Reading Specialist, are required to complete the Reading for Virginia Educators: Reading Specialist (eading Specialists ).

Veterans Services The Old Dominion University Veterans Affairs Services provides specialized customer service to members of the various branches of mlitary service, veterans, and their eligible dependents. The staff serves as an advocate for students by providing informaiton aobut the University and assisting with Veteran's Administration (VA) programs and certification. Clearance Process
Old Dominion University candidates in approved professional educational programs are required to provide a clearance check when registering for a course that requires a field experience. This clearance check becomes effective with Fall 2014 semester.
