School of Nursing Students and Faculty Administer COVID-19 Vaccine

Twenty-four ODU nursing students and six School of Nursing faculty volunteered their time on Saturday, January 30, 2021 to help administer COVID-19 vaccines. They joined Sentara employees and others community volunteers at two COVID-19 vaccine clinics organized by Sentara Healthcare that were held at Norfolk Scope and the Hampton Convention Center.

The goal of this effort was to administer 5,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at each location to eligible persons in the Phase 1b vaccination group in Hampton Roads. Faculty supervised and worked alongside students who had the unprecedented opportunity to practice their intramuscular (IM) injection technique while administering the vaccine to many grateful community residents.

The day-long event that ran from 7 am to 8 pm was exhausting, but rewarding. School of Nursing faculty and students plan to continue volunteering at vaccine clinics throughout the region.
