FOOTBALL SIGNING DAY TODAY, WALK-ON TRYOUT TOMORROW
Head coach Bobby Wilder and the Old Dominion University football program will hold a press conference announcing their initial recruiting class next Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the media room at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The following day, at 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at Foreman Field the Monarchs will hold a walk-on tryout for current students interested in playing on the ODU football team.
February 6 is the NCAA national letter of intent day for football. ODU's class, along with other walk-ons who will be added at a later date, will redshirt during the 2008 campaign. The Monarchs will participate in preseason camp and practices in the fall of '08, however they will not face any outside competition.
The walk-on tryout on Feb. 7 is open to ODU students who are currently registered as a full-time students and who have at least two years of eligibility remaining. Those interested must first complete a questionnaire located at www.odusports.com on football website, be cleared by the ODU compliance office and have completed a recent health physical. Prospective student-athletes will be put through a series of conditioning drills that will continue through early April, when the coaches will announce students that will be invited to join the fall practices. The Feb. 7 event is open to the public.
The athletic department will begin accepting football season ticket applications on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m., by calling the Constant Center box office at 683-4444, or ordering online at www.odusports.com.
