ODU’s speech-language pathology program, Monarch Food Pantry will each benefit from $2,000 grants

By Sherry DiBari

Town-N-Gown recently announced two grant recipients for 2020.

Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education and Professional Studies' speech-language pathology program was awarded $2,000 to purchase SimuCase licenses. The platform provides clinical simulation activities and offers a comprehensive library of case examples, including real patients with communication disorders. Students work through the assessment and treatment scenarios to learn clinical skills.

Student Engagement and Enrollment Services will receive $2,000 for assistance in establishing the Monarch Food Pantry. Funds will be awarded toward the purchase of an industrial refrigerator/freezer, storage/transport tubs and reusable grocery bags. The food pantry, located on 49th Street, provides groceries at no charge to students, faculty and staff.

Each spring since 1976, Town-N-Gown has awarded grants of varying amounts to deserving departments, organizations, or special events affiliated with ODU. The group's aim is to provide a support organization for the University and foster a stronger relationship between the University and the community.
