ODU ITS Officer Honored by Virginia Alliance for Secure Computing and Networking

Mark DeDomenic, assistant information security officer for security operations in Old Dominion University's Information Technology Services (ITS), recently was selected for a Founders Award by the Virginia Alliance for Secure Computing and Networking (VASCAN).

The award recognized his contribution to the Virginia information security community and work to advance an effective information security program.

"Mark is highly respected across the information security community for his expertise, willingness to share knowledge and collaboration with other institutions," said Rusty Waterfield, associate vice president for university services and chief information officer of ITS.

Through the student cybersecurity academic internship program, DeDomenic is helping develop new talent to meet workforce demands. He is a regular presenter at the VASCAN conference and volunteered to serve on the program committee for the 2018 Educause security professionals conference. He is a champion for information security principles and practices, determined to continually improve and enhance ODU's security program.

"Mark led the evaluation of endpoint protection software at ODU followed by the procurement and implementation of Crowdstrike," Waterfield said. "He negotiated a great price, making a market-leading product affordable for us and other Virginia institutions. The ODU procurement office is now using Mark's thorough evaluation process as the standard across the University."
