Rick French, Associate Athletic Director for Operations, is the Employee of the Month for June

Rick French, associate director for operations with Intercollegiate Athletics, is the June Employee of the Month.

French has been employed by the University since 2013.

French was recognized for his hard work and dedication to his role. Among some of his accomplishments as associate athletic director are the Big 12 rowing regatta, which consisted of working with the Coast Guard, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the Norfolk Police Department, ODU risk management and seven venues. During the weekend of the Charity Bowl Spring Game, which included several key events and a concert, French and his staff raised close to a half-million dollars for local children's charities.

Bruce Stewart, senior associate athletic director for Old Dominion, added that French plays a crucial role in the everyday success of the athletic department.

"Rick's attribute of being a team player is what allows him to have great success," Stewart said. "He not only listens to the needs and wants of everyone but is always willing to extend help to accomplish the ultimate outcome even if it's outside of his job duties."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award.
