Governor Appoints Four Members to Old Dominion Board of Visitors

Gov. Terry McAuliffe has appointed three new members, and reappointed a current member, to Old Dominion University's Board of Visitors.

The new members of the board are Jerri Dickseski, executive vice president of communications for Huntington Ingalls Industries; Maurice D. Slaughter, chairman and CEO of MS Family Enterprises, Inc.; and the Honorable Aubrey Layne, the Commonwealth's Secretary of Transportation. The Honorable Ross Mugler, Commissioner of the Revenue for the City of Hampton, and a former University rector, was reappointed for a second term.

Dickseski, Slaughter, Layne and Mugler will serve four-year terms on Old Dominion's board. Dickseski, Slaughter and Mugler will begin their terms July 1; Layne will assume his position on the board in January 2018, after he concludes his term as secretary. Departing board member Robert M. Tata will remain in his position until Layne's appointment is effective.

The new Board of Visitors members replace Mary Maniscalco-Theberge, Richard T. Cheng and Tata, all of whom were appointed in 2013.

"Mary Maniscalco-Theberge, Richard Cheng and Robert Tata have each made significant contributions through years of service to the board and University. They have been fantastic to work with and have demonstrated exemplary vision," said President John R. Broderick. "Their advocacy will be missed; however, I am confident our newest members will ably step in, bringing new ideas to the board."

Dickseski earned bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Old Dominion University. She has held her current position at Huntington Ingalls Industries, the nation's largest military shipbuilder, since 2011.

Slaughter owns three Harley Davidson franchises, in Portsmouth and North Carolina. He has served on several business and organization boards in the Hampton Roads region.

Layne, who earned a MBA from Old Dominion University, was appointed Secretary of Transportation in 2013. He also served as the Hampton Roads representative on the Commonwealth Transportation Board and was president of An Achievable Dream Academy, in Newport News.

Mugler was appointed to the board in August 2014. He previously served eight years on the board from 2002-2010 and was rector from 2008-2010. He received bachelor's and master's degrees, in business and public administration respectively, from Old Dominion University.
