Big Blue Summer Camp Offers Adventures for Boys and Girls, Ages 6-12
July 08, 2016
Old Dominion University's Department of Recreation and Wellness is accepting registrations for week-long Big Blue Summer Camps, through the week of August 15-19.
The American Camp Association (ACA) accredited camps are created to help stimulate and excite boys and girls ages 6-12. Held at Old Dominion's Student Recreation Center, the programs are designed to contribute to continued education and an active lifestyle outside of a classroom setting.
The day camp focuses on helping participants develop friendship skills, independence, teamwork, family citizenship, interest in exploration, affinity for nature and confidence in problem solving.
In addition to each week's theme, campers participate in swimming, climbing wall activities, arts and crafts and a field trip or special program.
Big Blue Summer Camp prides itself on providing children with highly motivated and enthusiastic staff who will mentor child campers. Candidates must meet strict qualifications that meet and often exceed licensing guidelines.
All Big Blue Camp staff must participate in training for child abuse prevention, CPR/First Aid Training, OSHA blood borne pathogens and other staff licensing. Staff also adhere to ACA camper-to-counselor ratios to ensure that appropriate supervision is maintained throughout the duration of the program.
For the remainder of the summer, theme weeks for Big Blue Summer Camp include:
