Daniel Cornier, from Intercollegiate Athletics, is the June Employee of the Month

Daniel Cornier, currently the head athletic equipment manager with Intercollegiate Athletics, is Old Dominion University's Employee of the Month for June.

Cornier began his employment with ODU in 2006, while a student. He is being recognized for extraordinary service, professionalism, ability to work collaboratively, respectfulness, enthusiasm and forward thinking which enables him to serve in a capacity that goes above and beyond what is expected.

Cornier facilitated an athletic program transition from Nike to Under Armour. His initiative, innovation and product knowledge made the move a success. Cornier remained proactive in executing the work that led to brokering the deal and he ensured a smooth transition which has had a ripple effect in the marketplace.

Additionally, Cornier took on additional responsibilities in the spring of 2016 when the department needed him to step up.

"This is an outstanding accomplishment when you consider he worked through spring football practices without any level of service deficiencies," said Bruce Stewart, Cornier's supervisor. "Dan took the necessary steps to provide a high standard of service to our athletic programs and facilitated resolutions when needed. He always has a calming influence on our staff and student-athletes alike."

DETAILS ABOUT THE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH PROCESS

The University Employee of the Month Selection Committee encourages employees to nominate their outstanding, "go the extra mile" colleagues and employees. This program is designed to acknowledge and reward employees whose accomplishments and/or demeanor exemplify excellence, quality service and commitment to ODU. Classified and AP faculty employees receive a framed certificate from the president, $175 and one day of leave. Hourly winners get $250, since they are not eligible to receive recognition leave.

Note: The selection committee needs specific examples that relate to each applicable criterion in order to select a nominee for the award. Nominations remain active for six months from date of submission and nominators may submit additional documentation to support a nominee during the active six months.

The criteria used to nominate an employee include the following:

  • An outstanding accomplishment that benefited the department/students.
  • Extraordinary service to internal and/or external customers.
  • Inspiring initiative/leadership.
  • Enthusiasm/energy given to assigned work.
  • Teamwork.
  • Exemplary efforts to nurture a climate of care, concern and civility.
  • Creative innovations to service, process or work tools.
