“Walk a Mile” Event March 29 Aims to Help End Sexual Violence

Men, come join Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick as part of the solution to stop sexual assault and gender violence.

Come "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes."

The high heels will be provided at ODU's "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" rally Tuesday, March 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Kaufman Mall. Men will be able to slip on a pair of heels and walk around campus to raise awareness of the movement to end sexual violence.

It is a lighthearted way to bring attention and discussion to the serious causes, effects and solutions to male violence against women.

Information tables will be set up to provide various ways to show support and participate in ODU's Men of Quality photo and video shoot.

Additionally, the Green Dot ODU Campus Challenge will kick off after the walk. It is a campus-wide campaign to reduce sexual assault, dating violence and stalking.

Trained faculty and staff, working closely with student leaders, provide tools to encourage bystander intervention and intolerance for violence. The violence-prevention strategy, developed at the University of Kentucky, has been employed across the nation in high schools and colleges. Statistics have shown a 50 percent reduction in sexual violence at high schools with the Green Dot program.

More information on the Green Dot program can be found at its website.

Registration for ODU's "Walk a Mile" event can be done individually or as a group at ODUWalkaMile@gmail.com.
