Public School Art on Display at Tri-Cities Center through May

Over seventy people attended the Chesapeake Public Schools Art Show Opening held Thursday, March 24, 2016, at ODU Tri-Cities Center in Portsmouth.

Twenty-six students in grades one through five displayed their artwork to delighted teachers, families and the public. The center has hosted the bi-annual event for Chesapeake and Suffolk Public Schools for five years to showcase local students' talent and increase awareness of the ODU Tri-Cities Center, which is a full-service branch of Old Dominion University, offering classes and student services.

All participating artists received a recognition certificate from Chesapeake administrator, Sarah Rhodes, supervisor for gifted education, visual arts and world languages.

The artwork will be available for viewing through May from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays on the second floor of the ODU Tri-Cities Center. Debbie Hobbs, a Suffolk artist and art instructor, also has paintings on exhibit in the second floor hallway.

ODU Tri-Cities Center will be hosting an Art Show opening for Suffolk Public Schools on Tuesday, May 3, from 5-6 p.m. and a Churchland High School Senior Visual Arts opening on Friday, May 6, 2016, from 6-8 p.m.

The shows are open to the public and refreshments will be served. All artwork will be available for viewing after the events.
