Planetarium Director Honored for Customer Relations

Justin Mason, director of the University's Pretlow Planetarium, has been named Old Dominion University customer relations employee of the year.
Mason received the award from President John R. Broderick at Old Dominion's Annual Recognition Luncheon, Dec. 2.
His award highlighted the annual event that recognizes continuous employee service and retirements across the University. Mason was selected from a field of six nominees.
He received an engraved plaque which reads: The Students, Faculty and Staff Proudly Recognize the customer service accomplishments of Justin Mason, Old Dominion University Customer Relations Employee of the Year 2016.
The plaque also contains the slogan, "The secret of success is to treat every customer as if your world revolves around them."
Mason also received three days of recognition leave and a $500 bonus.
His supervisor, Lisa Okun, wrote in her nomination: "Mr. Mason epitomized the utmost professionalism and customer service in his every word and action. He always put forth his very best effort, delivered impressive results and upheld the highest ethical, moral and professional standards...Mr. Mason is extremely approachable, listens carefully and is tremendously patient and thoughtful in his every action with people. He is very well respected and truly understands the importance of fostering relationships and building trust, which is a huge part of the foundation of his success."
President John R. Broderick honored employees with five to 40 years of service to the University at the luncheon. In his opening remarks to an audience of more than 200 guests, Broderick thanked all those recognized for their efforts to help Old Dominion thrive.
Three employees were recognized for 40 years of service, including Kathy Parker of Finance; Harvey Logan of Facilities Management; and Helen Ho of the Old Dominion University Libraries.
The annual luncheon recognized 181 employees who have worked a collective 2,355 years for Old Dominion University.
