ODU's Ellen Neufeldt Recipient of National Service Award

By Noell Saunders

Ellen Neufeldt, Old Dominion University's vice president for student engagement & enrollment services (SEES), was recently recognized by NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education for her contributions to the student affairs profession.

Neufeldt will be awarded the 2017 Pillars of the Profession Award along with 11 other winners from higher education institutions nationwide.

NASPA is a leading organization that focuses on the health, advancement and sustainability of the student affairs profession.

The Pillars of the Profession Award honors members who:

Are individuals of sustained professional distinction in the higher education field, as defined by donors and supporters;

  • Have served in leadership roles in NASPA, either regionally or nationally;

  • Are being recognized or remembered by colleagues, friends, students or student organizations for extraordinary service;

  • Have made significant lifetime contributions to the higher education field.

Neufeldt credits her success to a strong working environment at Old Dominion.

"For me, Old Dominion University really is the place that allows that to happen. It's a supportive community. ODU is a place where we can work together to support our students and the university," she said.

Neufeldt came to Old Dominion from Salisbury University in Maryland, where she served as vice president for student affairs.

Since Neufeldt's arrival in 2011, she has worked to establish programs and services that promote student success from the first point of contact to graduation and beyond.

"I hope, as a result of our staff's efforts, we can give all students the best chance to succeed at ODU as well as in their careers after graduation," Neufeldt said.

Award recipients will be recognized March 13, 2017, at the NASPA Annual Conference in San Antonio.
