Dec. 19 Gathering Will Send ODU Off to First Bowl Game

Are you ready for some football? The Old Dominion Monarchs are - in the Bahamas, no less.
The Monarchs will take on Eastern Michigan in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Friday, Dec. 23. The Monarch fan community is invited to a sendoff at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, before the players and coaches board buses for the airport.
The event will be in the North Mall Atrium at Webb University Center. Coach Bobby Wilder will speak to 12th Monarchs who attend, and the event will feature the ODU Marching Monarchs, ODU Cheer & Dance and Big Blue.
The first 200 fans will receive a commemorative Bahamas Bowl T-shirt. There will also be free Thundersticks, ODU bead necklaces, as well as coffee and doughnuts provided by Aramark.
Before the players march through a "tunnel" of supporters to board their buses, a commemorative sendoff group photo will be taken with coaches and the team.

The Popeyes Bahamas Bowl will be played at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23. The Monarchs (9-3) of Conference USA will take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles (7-5) of the Mid-American Conference. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
