Forum to Identify DOD Research Funding Opportunities

The Old Dominion University Office of Research is sponsoring a Department of Defense (DOD) Funding Forum for the university's faculty who are interested in DOD research grants. Five campus experts on military research issues will be guest speakers.
The forum will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, in the Perry Library Learning Commons, Rooms 1310-11. Lisa Kelch, ODU research development and outreach coordinator, said tenure-track faculty from all of the university's colleges are encouraged to attend. Speakers will be Vice Adm. David Architzel, U.S. Navy (retired), who is ODU's director of military affairs; Kathleen Levingston, director of ODU's Military Connection Center; John Sokolowski, executive director of ODU's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center; Capt. Ray Toll, U.S. Navy (retired), the ODU-NOAA liaison; and Eric Weisel, director of research and development for ODU's Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology.
Kelch said topics will include:
An overview of the DOD budgeting process
Mapping resources to requirements
Identifying existing research opportunities and generating new ones
Health, education and social science research with military populations
Partnering with industry
Leveraging ODU's proximity to Naval Station Norfolk and other military installations.
