President Broderick Appointed to Second AASCU Council Term

Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick was recently reappointed to a second term on the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Council of State Representatives.

AASCU is a Washington, D.C.-based higher education association representing nearly 420 public colleges, universities and systems whose members share a learning- and teaching-centered culture, a historic commitment to underserved student populations and a dedication to research and creativity that advances their regions' economic progress and cultural development.

The Council of State Representatives consists of both elected and appointed members and is responsible for helping to formulate the association's public policy agenda and assist staff in carrying out the agenda through contacts with stakeholders and members. In addition to those responsibilities, the panel also has a high priority role in observing and providing counsel on state higher education trends and issues.

Broderick was initially appointed to the council in 2012 with a term that expired on Dec. 31, 2013. His new term will extend through the end of 2015.

The panel typically meets three times each year for informal, candid discussions that involve the most important issues of the day for public higher education institutions from all 50 states. The next meeting will be held March 5-7 in Washington D.C.

President Broderick also serves as one of six college presidents on the Governor's Commission on Higher Education Reform, Innovation and Investment and has been actively engaged in numerous community and professional organizations.
