Internationally Renowned Eco-entrepreneur Headlining Friends of Women’s Studies Annual Fundraiser

Majora Carter, an internationally renowned urban revitalization strategy consultant, real estate developer and Peabody Award-winning broadcaster, will be the featured speaker at the Old Dominion University 2013 Friends of Women's Studies annual dinner.

The eco-entrepreneur, and 2005 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, is widely known for having launched innovative ventures and developed insights into urban economic developments designed to help move Americans out of poverty. In her role, Carter is responsible for the creation and successful implementation of numerous green-infrastructure projects, policies and job training and placement systems.

The 2013 Friends of Women's studies annual fundraising dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 17, in the North Cafeteria of ODU's Webb Center. A reception (with cash bar) will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will follow at 7 p.m.

Carter will speak on "Home(town) Security." Her discussion will center on green-infrastructure, progressive real estate development and the role of women in driving opportunities to reduce poverty in America. She has continually set new standards of excellence with projects in her South Bronx community while expanding her reach nationally and internationally with philanthropic pursuits and business interests that have all pointed toward greater self-esteem and economic potential for low-income people everywhere.

Reservations are required for the dinner. The cost is $30/$240 per table; $15/$120 per table for students. Reservations may be made online by visiting the ODU Department of Women's Studies website.

Parking for this event will be available in the 43rd Street parking garages A and B, the Constant Center parking garages and the 49th Street garage (avoid metered and reserved spaces).
