Athletic Departments’ Jackie Barrow Appointed to Norfolk Hotel and Motel Association Advisory Board
October 18, 2013

Jackie Barrow, Old Dominion University Athletics' director of community relations and special events, has been named to the Norfolk Hotel and Motel Association advisory board.
Barrow, in her ninth year with ODU Athletics, coordinates all of the department's community activities and engagements, including the Monarch Reach-out ticket program. She also serves as coordinator for the department's special events, which includes working closely with hotels, when ODU hosts NCAA events, on hospitality, team bookings and check-ins.
Barrow's work as a liaison between local hotels and the NCAA, preparing hotels for what the NCAA expects in terms of hotel partnerships, contributed to her appointment to the position.
ODU athletic director Wood Selig said she is a deserving choice for the appointment.
"Jackie's role as director of community relations and special events coordinator positions her well to serve on the Norfolk Hotels Association advisory board," he said. "Through her work as our NCAA Championships liaison with the local area hotels, she has established tremendous rapport with the many hotels located throughout Norfolk."
The Norfolk Hotel and Motel Association, part of the Norfolk Hospitality Association, is a nonprofit corporation representing the common interests of hotels, restaurants, attractions and allied members. The organization provides its members with marketing information through Visit Norfolk, promotes and supports tourism, advocates with city government, promotes community involvement and offers opportunities for networking and sponsorship.
Barrow will have a busy calendar with service commitments over the next 12 months. She is also serving as volunteer accountant next year for ODU's Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign, a charitable giving initiative that benefits more than 1,100 charities.
