ODU Wrestling Hosts Fund-Raising Golf Tournament April 20

The ODU wrestling program has achieved national prominence in recent years, with four All-Americans the past four seasons, and a top 25 ranking this season.

But this season's success, featuring defeats of ranked teams like Central Michigan, Iowa State and Rutgers, doesn't happen by accident. It takes a total program effort, from the coaches, the athletes, and the supporters of ODU wrestling.

ODU wrestling fans can help support the team, and have a great time in the process, during the 8th annual Takedown Club Golf Tournament. The event is being held Friday, April 20 at the Sewell's Point Golf Course.

"The Takedown Club Golf Tournament is a very important asset for Old Dominion Wrestling," said head wrestling coach Steve Martin. "The proceeds from this tournament go directly to help better serve our student athletes and to provide them opportunities to earn a college education as well as compete for NCAA Championships. This tournament is very important for us to continue our mission to attract and retain quality student athletes as well as continuing to make them productive members of society."

The main fund-raising event for ODU wrestling, the Takedown Club Golf Tournament raises money to help subsidize the team's recruiting and travel budget. Just this season, Monarch wrestlers will travel to Michigan, Iowa, Oklahoma and Nebraska to represent Old Dominion University.

Last year's event raised $32,000 for ODU wrestling.

Registration for the four-player scramble begins at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event. Competition kicks off with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The tournament is followed by a dinner and awards banquet.

Entry fee is $500 per foursome ($25 for the banquet alone), and a variety of sponsorship opportunities exist for the tournament as well.
