50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 at ODU - July 20, 2019
Join us on July 20 to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11!
Old Dominion University will host a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing on July 20, highlighted by a concert by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) that will feature a special composition.
The concert is one of many events that are free and open to the public at the observance, which will begin at 4 p.m.
The VSO's performance, which will be from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Kaufman Lawn, will include "From the Earth to the Moon and Beyond." The composition, with narration and imagery to commemorate the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, was written by Indiana composer James Beckel and is being performed by a number of well-known orchestras around the country. The performance will be the Virginia debut of the composition.

ODU will have water stations available for persons attending Saturday's Moon landing anniversary celebration, but encourages individuals to bring refillable water bottles - no coolers please!

The event will take place rain or shine. If we incur inclement weather we will need to move the symphony's performance inside the University Theatre. We wish we could allow everyone inside but we only have 280 seats available.
At this time, we have reached our RSVP capacity for the University Theatre should we have to move the performance indoors. However, the forecast looks good and we currently plan to have the performance outdoors. For an outdoor performance we can accommodate a much larger audience. The more the merrier!
- Guests may bring lawn chairs and blankets

-Water and refillable water bottles are permitted and encouraged due to expected high temperatures. Water stations are available throughout Webb Center and bottled water will be available for purchase.
