Monarch Lead

The Emerging Monarchs program is a Fall leadership experience that lays the foundation for successful student leaders at Old Dominion University. The program focuses on individual strengths and talents as we work together for a smooth transition into student leadership on ODU's campus. The program includes leadership workshops, opportunities to connect with other student leaders and faculty, and an overnight retreat. During the fall semester, students have an ongoing opportunity to connect and form meaningful relationships with each other, as they are also exposed to valuable resources to support their academic and co-curricular journey.

Students are encouraged to continue their leadership development by continuing to engage in ongoing leadership workshops offered throughout the Fall and Spring semester on Wednesdays at noon.

Program Requirements

Participants interested in applying for the program must be able to commit to the following requirements:

  • Attend Tuesday in-person community building sessions at 12:30 pm
  • Attend Wednesday leadership lecture at 12-noon online
  • Participate in the overnight retreat (All expenses are covered and transportation is provided)
  • Pay a $20 Commitment Fee

Program Benefits

Graduates of the program are among the brightest student leaders at the university, and they are given priority to return as a 'Peer Coach' for the next class of Emerging Monarchs and First-Year Summer Institute (FSI) participants.
