Different groups of people need access to University services, from students and employees who use certain systems every day, to guests who simply need to get access to campus WiFi.
Employees and students have records in Banner, ODU's academic and administrative records system, and are by far the most common types of account users. However, there are guests and affiliates of ODU who do not have a Banner record who need to access services, either temporarily or for longer periods of time. MIDAS has the capability to create accounts that do not exist in Banner for special event guests, summer camps or vendors, for example.
The following types of accounts are issued by MIDAS:
Employees & Students
Students and Employees of the University who not only have a basic record in Banner, but are also listed as active employees or students. These users have UINs.
Researchers, vendors and other associated members of the University who have a basic record in Banner, but may not be an active University employee or student. Commonly, Research Foundation employees and researchers and University-contracted employees (like Aramark) have this type of account. These users have UINs.
University guests can request one of the following accounts:
MIDAS Guest: MIDAS Guest accounts are for individuals with long (more than six months) affiliations to the University who require IT resources while they are here. For various reasons, they are not able to have a basic person record in Banner. Multiple services are available, and the account is in complete control of the guest. These users do not have UINs.
Sponsored Account: Temporary affiliates of the University commonly receive sponsord accounts. Typically, they require Wi-Fi or LAN access for a short (less than six months) time for convenience or to complete their task. More information about sponsored accounts can be found here. These users do not have UINs.
Event Account: The University hosts numerous events and conferences throughout the year. Event accounts allow event or conference attendees temporary access to Wi-Fi for the duration of the event. More information about event accounts can be found here. These users do not have UINs.
