NORFOLK, VIRGINIA- Shepherd University in Martinsburg is holding a Boots to Business: Reboot on December 8, 2021. Veterans have the character, discipline and skills needed to succeed as small business owners and entrepreneurs. Wondering what it takes and how you can prepare? Enroll in Boots to Business Reboot. This is a one-day in-person entrepreneurship course and is offered off installation and provides participants with an overview of business fundamentals, while introducing techniques for evaluating the feasibility of small business concepts. Boots to Business: Reboot (B2BR) offers the Boots to Business training program off installation, extending access to veterans of all eras, National Guard, Reserve, and military spouses. "It is a pleasure for the Veteran Business Outreach Center (VBOC), at Old Dominion University (ODU) to partner with Shepherd University to bring the SBA's renown Entrepreneurship training program to Martinsburg and its surrounding counties" Cherylynn Sagester, VBOC Director/Senior Business Counselor.

The curriculum provides assistance to those veterans and their family members who are interested in exploring business ownership or other self-employment opportunities by leading participants through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and providing foundational knowledge required to develop a business plan. Participants are introduced to a broad spectrum of entrepreneurial business concepts and resources available to access start-up capital, technical assistance, contracting opportunities, one-on-one business counseling and more. "If you have ever considered owning your own business, this training will provide you with the information you would need to make an intelligent decision if entrepreneurship is for you!" Cherylynn Sagester, Director/Senior Business Counselor, ODU.

Shepherd University opened a campus in Martinsburg in June of 2013. Although at a separate location, the building serves students in the same capacity as much as can be duplicated in Shepherdstown. The Martinsburg Center will effectively serve the area's non-traditional students and will deliver Shepherd University's outstanding academic instruction to adult's seeking degree completion in the region while offering a convenient location, flexible hours, and affordable price.

"Shepherd University in Martinsburg appreciates the opportunity to work with veteran organizations like Veteran's Upward Bound, the Martinsburg Veteran's Administration Hospital, 167th Air National Guard, Four State Community Veterans Engagement Board and other organizations that support our past and present local military service personnel. It's a privilege and an honor to host the Veterans Business Outreach Center through the Small Business Administration to provide learning opportunities such as Boots to Business for our Veterans." Jim Klein, Director, Shepherd University.
