2022 Compensation Activity

Dear Colleague,

The purpose of this correspondence is to communicate the eligibility requirements and other details surrounding the state-funded 5% salary increase. This increase is across the board for salaried employees meeting the eligibility requirements; therefore, a merit-based differential is not being applied. The increase is on the state-funded portion of the base salary. Unit heads with faculty and staff in grant/gift funded positions may reallocate existing funds to support salary increases for the portion of salary on non-state funding.

Eligibility Requirements by Employment Classification:

Classified Employees

  • 5% state-funded increase effective July 10, 2022 and appearing in the August 1, 2022 pay.
  • Employed as of April 10, 2022, in a salaried position and remaining employed in a salaried position on July 10, 2022.
  • Received at least a contributor rating for the most recent performance evaluation.
  • Supervisors must contact Brian Jackson, Employee Relations Manager, bkjackso@odu.edu:
    • to confirm the current performance level for probationary employees.
    • to confirm the current performance level for classified employees for whom you have not completed a 2021 Annual Performance Evaluation.

Administrative/Professional Faculty

  • 5% state-funded increase effective July 10, 2022 and appearing in the August 1, 2022 pay.
  • Employed as of April 10, 2022 in a salaried position and remaining employed in a salaried position on July 10, 2022.
  • Supervisors must contact Brian Jackson, Employee Relations Manager, bkjackso@odu.edu:
    • to confirm the current performance level for Administrative and Professional Faculty for whom you have not completed a 2022 Annual Performance Evaluation.

Teaching/Research Faculty on 12-month Contracts

  • 5% state-funded increase effective July 10, 2022 and appearing in the August 1, 2022 pay.
  • Employed as of April 10, 2022 in a salaried position and remaining employed in a salaried position on July 10, 2022.
  • Performing at a satisfactory level.

Teaching/Research Faculty on 10-month Contracts

  • 5% state-funded increase effective July 25, 2022 and appearing in the August 16, 2022 pay.
  • Employed as of April 10, 2022 in a salaried position and remaining employed in a salaried position on July 10, 2022.
  • Performing at a satisfactory level.

Adjunct Faculty

  • 5% state-funded increase on the adjunct faculty rates effective beginning with the Fall 2022 semester and appearing in the first paycheck for the first semester they teach after the effective date (August 16, 2022).

Wage (Hourly) Employees

  • 5% increase to the hourly rate effective July 16, 2022 and appearing in the August 16, 2022 pay.
  • Employed as of April 10, 2022 and remain employed in an hourly position on July 16, 2022.
