Why Honors?

The ODU Honors experience reflects our commitment to helping students make their way in the world while creating an engaging educational experience at Old Dominion.

Honors courses are offered in a small class setting with some of the best faculty members on campus, providing an environment for holding lively discussions and building personal relationships. Many of our themed general education courses serve as springboards for our students' sustained commitment to undergraduate research, and ODU's active research community provides ample opportunity for students to get involved with hands-on, inquiry-based experiences in engineering, business, the sciences, the arts and more.

Although we believe the number-one advantage of an Honors experience is the personal growth gained via innovative research, academics and civic engagement, there are many other benefits available to Honors students.

  • A $500 annual scholarship ($250 each semester) for up to eight semesters
  • Eligibility for academic enrichment grants to support research, creative work, and entrepreneurial activities
