Park, Recreation & Tourism Studies Lab

The mission of the Park, Recreation, and Tourism Studies Lab is to facilitate regional, national, and international research and community engagement opportunities through applied research, experiential learning, and evidence-based programming. The PRTS Lab is located in the Student Recreation Center, Room 1009, and is the base camp for research in tourism, park and protected area management, youth development, recreational therapy, and outdoor recreation and education.

The lab is also outfitted with adaptive and outdoor recreation equipment, as well as group development resources, to allow faculty and students to engage with the community through a wide variety of projects in the Hampton Roads region. Undergraduate students and graduate assistants use the lab to develop knowledge and skills in field-based research, recreational therapy, group leadership, positive youth development and wilderness medicine.
