Conference Calls

For making conference calls with more than three people, you will need a Conference Calling Card.

How To Request A Conference Card

  1. Complete the "Order Conference/LD Calling Card" form located on the Work Order Request page.
  2. Be sure to note "Conference Call" under "Type of calling Card".
  3. Departments may request multiple cards on a single request . The name, office location, and telephone number for each user must be listed on the request.
  4. Cards are issued to the department for distribution within 15 business days after approval. The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) will send users account information and instructions on how to use the conference system by email.

Cisco IP Telephones

There are several telephones available for purchase. All Cisco IP telephones have the ability to make 3 person conference calls, transfer phone calls, caller ID, user directory, and can be configured for additional features. Voice mail is included with each IP telephone.

Cisco 7945

7945 Cisco IP telephone - No Charge

The 7945 is the standard telephone for campus service. It is a 2 button IP telephone. There is a $21.50 per month charge for the telephone, plus long distance charges. If this device will be part of a call manager additional costs will apply.


Cisco 7965

7965 Cisco IP telephone

The 7965 is an enhanced telephone for use by personal who monitor several telephone numbers. It is a 6 button IP telephone, and can be expanded to 34 buttons. There is a $21.50 per month charge for the telephone, plus long distance charges. If this device will be part of a call manager additional costs will apply.


Cisco 7975

The 7975 is an enhanced telephone for use by personal who monitor several telephone numbers. It is an 8 button IP telephone. There is a $21.50 per month charge for the telephone, plus long distance charges. If this device will be part of a call manager additional costs will apply.


Cisco 7914 Sidecar

7914 Sidecar

The 7914 extends the capabilities of the Cisco IP Phone with 14 additional buttons and an LCD display. Two Sidecars can be attached to the IP telephone.


Cisco 8831

8831 Cisco IP telephone

The 8831 is a conference room telephone. There is a $21.50 per month charge for the telephone, plus long distance charges.



Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I hear a dial tone?

The phone cord may be unplugged. Make sure that the cord is plugged into the back of the phone and also the wall jack.

My voicemail password is not working.

Your password needs to be reset. Contact the Technical Support Center at 757.683.3192 or itshelp@odu.edu.

Too many wrong password entries will cause the system to be locked. If this happens you will need to unlock the mailbox. Contact the Technical Support Center at 757.683.3192 or itshelp@odu.edu to have the mailbox unlocked.

I'm not receiving any new voicemails.

Your voicemail box may be full. There is a limited amount of voicemails that can be saved on the phone. Delete old messages to clear room for new messages.

How do I set up voicemail?

Press the Messages button on your Cisco IP phone and follow the voice prompts. The initial voicemail password is: 678465.

How do I access voicemail from my Cisco IP phone?

Press the Messages button and follow the voice prompts. Use your voicemail password.

How do I access voicemail from a phone other than my Cisco IP phone?

Dial your phone number and press * when your voicemail message starts.

Follow the prompts. Your ID is your 5 digit extension e.g. "36926". Your password is your voicemail password.

How much is the new Cisco IP phone going to cost the department?

This depends on the type of phone purchased. See the list above for pricing.

Can I have one number on multiple phones?

Yes, however, the $21.50 per month cost is based on each phone, not each phone number.

Can I get a longer phone cord?

Yes, the cord is a standard Ethernet cable, like the one you use for your computer.

Is there a cordless IP phone?

Unfortunately, we do not support any cordless phone at this time.

Are there instruction manuals?

Yes, the easiest ways to access the manual is to press the ? button on the phone.

How do I forward my phone to another number?

Press the CFwdAll soft key. Dial the number to which you want to forward all calls OR press the Messages key to forward to Voicemail. To end call forwarding, press the CFwdAll key.

What advanced services are available on the new Cisco IP phones?

Will the Cisco IP phone affect my internet connection?

You should see no difference in your internet connection from your phone.

If I lose internet or power, will my phone not work?

Unfortunately, since the phone is running over your internet connection if internet or power is lost your phone will not function.
