Research Computing Network

Printed circuit board in the server executes the data.

Information Technology Services (ITS) supports the university's research computing needs by providing high performance computing clusters, data analytics environments and storage for research data. These systems are available for use by university researchers and students to advance the university's research goals.

We provide both symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) shared memory computers, and High Performance Computing clusters for parallel programming applications.

A multi-terabyte storage access network (SAN) is available to provide research activities with secure storage of research data.

NOAA joins the E-LITE network

ODU and the rest of the E-LITE participants welcomed the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to the E-LITE network in 2019. NOAA operates various sites in the Tidewater area and was previously searching for a broadband connectivity solution to connect six of these sites back to the NOAA N-Wave national network. The existing E-LITE network was already well suited to provide much of the long-haul transport needs, providing high-speed network connectivity to the Mid-Atlantic Research Infrastructure Alliance (MARIA) exchanges in both Ashburn and Atlanta. To complete the solution, additional network connectivity was procured from both Internet2 and local E-LITE partner Cox Communications. The project was an exciting opportunity for many institutions to collaborate and come together to solve common networking needs. E-LITE is happy to have a new partner in NOAA and to support their important mission of science, service, and stewardship.
