Emily Goodman-Scott Earns Prestigious ACA Fellows Award

Congratulations to Dr. Emily Goodman-Scott for receiving the American Counseling Association (ACA) Fellows award. The ACA Fellows Award is a distinctive honor that recognizes ACA members who have advanced the counseling profession throughout their career. Dr. Goodman-Scott was one of just 5 recipients.
This award acknowledges ACA members of professional distinction for significant and unique contributions to the counseling profession and celebrates service throughout their career and is a call for continued service—as professional counselors, authors, mentors, conference facilitators, practitioners, scholars and leaders. The ACA selects leaders in the counseling field who strongly embrace the ACA Code of Ethics and the ACA Position Statement on Nondiscrimination, and represent a diverse community of leaders that creates and expands knowledge and insight into the strategic matters of the counseling profession.
Dr. Goodman-Scott was selected for this honor due to her commitment to the counseling field for nearly 20 years - including her time spent as a practicing school counselor, licensed mental health counselor, and a counseling faculty member (tenured associate professor), and her focus on creating a more just and equitable K-12 educational system, and her scholarship. She has also dedicated herself to research. She has published 51 national journal articles and nearly 200 invited and peer-reviewed presentations/keynotes/preconference speaking events.
She has been an advocate both directly, and also facilitating advocacy with other counselors- to lobby for mental health in schools, trauma-informed practices related to lockdown drills and school shooting prevention, and school counseling in the schools (representing VA at Obama's School Counseling White House convenings as well as working with Northam's office and his Secretary of Education for more funding for VA school counseling).
Dr. Goodman-Scott and the other Fellows Awardees were honored at an event in Toronto, Canada in March.
