The Batten College of Engineering and Technology (BCET) engages students in various education and outreach activities. BCET 's mission is to introduce current and future students to engineering and to provide an option for a future career. Throughout the year, outreach activities are offered to students interested in learning more about engineering with hands-on lab activities designed to motivate them to pursue higher education.

Engineer's Week

Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, (NSPE) and organized nationally by DiscoverE, Engineers Week is dedicated to bringing engineering to life for K-12 students, educators and parents with a goal to ensure a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce. The weeklong celebration aims to increase understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers, while recognizing the contributions engineers make to society and quality of life.

Exploring the Batten College of Engineering & Technology

11th and 12th graders are invited to join our virtual learning series Thursdays, bi-weekly, from October to December 2020. Explore career pathways and jobs related to engineering specialization areas, along with necessary skills and knowledge and examples of research being done.




Lab Tours

First Fridays

The Engineering and Technology faculty and staff of Old Dominion University cordially invite teachers, counselors, prospective students and parents to learn more about Old Dominion's engineering programs and facilities. Programs begin at 2 p.m. on the first Friday of every month, (with the exception of January and July) and last approximately 2 hours.

Batten College of Engineering & Technology welcomes and encourages the younger generations to explore STEM ideas. Here you will find presentations and activities that will introduce robotics related concepts to age groups between 5 and 12 years old.

High-Achieving Latinxs in Engineering & Science (HALES)

Join a select group of high-achieving, motivated and ambitious Latinxs students from Virginia and Puerto Rico to participate in an exclusive invitation-only one-week science and engineering program at Old Dominion University.
