About The Frank Batten College of Engineering & Technology

The Batten College is one of seven colleges at the University, and includes 107 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 2,500 full-time undergraduates, and 750 graduate students. The College is made up of five departments: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.

The Batten College's diverse student population includes a 40% minority population and 15% military/veteran student population - the highest in Virginia. Over 44% of the College's freshmen are first-generation students. Our faculty members are highly active in research, publications and public service. Faculty in Autonomous Systems (3 Positions, Tenure Track/Tenured)

The Batten College invites applications for three positions at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor ranks, to begin in Fall 2023. We seek exceptional candidates with strong research track in autonomous systems. Autonomous systems include but are not limited to unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned underwater vehicles, and unmanned surface vehicles. Appointment will be with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering or the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, depending on the selected candidate's background and expertise. Assistant Professor of Mission Engineering (Tenure Track)

The Batten College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2023. We seek exceptional candidates with strong research track in Mission Engineering. Appointment will be with the in any of the five departments in the college. Mission engineering has its origins within the U.S. Department of Defense. As defined by the DoD, mission engineering is "the deliberate planning, analyzing, organizing, and integrating of current and emerging operational and system capabilities to achieve desired warfighting mission effects." The DoD also defines mission to be "the task, together with the purpose, that clearly indicates the action to be taken and the reason thereby." Old Dominion University has a strong history in supporting the DoD, including its directive to fully integrate mission engineering within their operations. ODU is building on this and will quickly establish itself as the national leader in mission engineering workforce development and applied research, including the adaptation and implementation of mission engineering into other, nonmilitary domains that also require the integration of multiple linked systems to achieve desired end states. Lecturers of Engineering Fundamentals (Non-Tenure Track, 2 Positions)

The Batten College of Engineering and Technology at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications from accomplished individuals with an earned Master's degree in engineering to serve as Lecturers in the Engineering Fundamentals Division - First Year Engineering program in Fall 2023. The successful candidates are expected to teach sections of the relevant courses in Engineering Fundamentals and/or First Year Engineering, working with the program director to ensure proper course structure, curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment; as well as consistency in course contents and standards. An interest in engineering education best practices, research, and assessment are desirable attributes. Candidates must be committed to contributing to high-quality education of a diverse student body at the undergraduate level and must demonstrate an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Open Administrative Professional positions

Outreach, Recruiting & Academic Advisor

The position will assist with the intake of student inquiries, recruitment of high value students, and provide the initial academic assessments necessary to place students in the correct programs. The position will be an academic career coach - providing the necessary advising, recruitment and placement of top preforming students - at all levels - into our programs; they will supervise and develop targeted messaging for recruiting programs, messaging, and activities on behalf of BCET with the ODU Office of Admissions, ODU Graduate School and BCET Director of Communications and Marketing; the position will plan and direct on- and off-campus engagement programs and events, including school visits, college fairs, "First Fridays, graduate school fairs, etc.; develop other strategies to improve recruiting and increase the number of high-potential, diverse students into engineering and engineering technology undergraduate and graduate programs; maintain and report data regarding potential student markets, contacts, applications, and acceptances into the BCET and provide assessment, advising and placement of high potential students in to BCET programs. Academic Coordinator and Program Manager

The Academic Coordinator and Program Manager coordinates and advises Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering students in curricular and academic matters; manages administrative tasks required to support the undergraduate programs; coordinates programs to enable student success; ensures students comply with University requirements; and maintains student records. The department offers programs to on-campus and distance learning students. This position will also coordinate with the Office of Distance Learning and stakeholders. Administrative tasks include coordinating course schedules; updating the undergraduate catalog and the course inventory system; supporting the ABET and University accreditation processes and assisting the department's leadership. Academic Administrative Assistant

Description: Operate as an Academic Administrative Assistant for the MET, EET, and CET program directors. Coordinate and manage activities related to the operation of academic support for these programs including enrollment, recruitment, assessment data collection for all programs, processing of student information, maintenance and security of student records, course scheduling, and other related duties as required for support of the programs and students. M-Lab Support Technician

Description: This position will serve as support technician for the M-Lab and works with users of varied backgrounds helping with experiments and projects, installing, operating, and maintaining a wide variety of specialized equipment, tools and software. This position also has the responsibility of monitoring and training users on the using of equipment and safety; as well as monitoring usage and operating cost of the facilities (including materials, supplies, manpower). Academic Programs Assistant

Description: This position will provide program and administrative guidance and support to the primarily for the college's undergraduate and graduate programs for all administrative and academic activities related to office management and operations in Graduate and Undergraduate Studies. Fiscal Operations Specialist

This position performs as a member of the Business Services Center to support the Financial operations of the college. Responsible for a variety of difficult budget and accounting tasks, including budget building and forecasting projections for all accounts within the college for optimal decision making. This position serves as a resource for all departments of the Batten College of Engineering and Technology. Position will monitors and create financial reports and extensive analysis from university and college sources and will develop recommendations in areas of assigned responsibility.
