CLEP

The College-Level Examination ProgramĀ® (CLEP) helps you receive college credit for what you already know, for a fraction of the cost of a college course. No faculty approval is needed to take a CLEP test. For more information on ODU CLEP scores and course equivalency, click here. Questions about CLEP scores should be directed to the Office of Admissions.

Note that individual institutions have different CLEP policies and equivalencies. Be sure to check with your home institution as to accepted tests/scores, and CLEP requirements.

Register for a CLEP Exam

  • Register online for the CLEP exam and pay the exam fee.
  • Register online for an appointment with the Testing Center. The testing fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
  • Print your admission ticket and bring it with you on test day.

On Test Day

  • Bring an appropriate official photo ID (valid state-issued ID, military ID or passport)
  • Bring your CLEP admission ticket

Computing Scores

  • On CLEP tests, you receive one point for each correct answer. Points aren't deducted for wrong or skipped answers. This means that you should do your best to supply an answer for each question on a CLEP exam.

Receiving Your Scores

  • Normally, you'll receive your score report instantly - with the exception of the College Composition with Essay, which takes three to four weeks to deliver.

Sending Score Reports to Your Colleges

When you register for a CLEP exam in My Account, you can indicate the college, employer or certifying agency that you want to receive your CLEP test scores. There's no cost for the first transcript request - your exam fee covers it. If you haven't decided by the time you take the test which institution you want to receive your scores, leave that part blank.

Re-test Policy

CLEP exams may not be retaken within a three-month period. This waiting period provides the student an opportunity to spend additional time preparing for the exam or the option of taking a classroom course.

To verify the current length of the waiting period, candidates may contact CLEP Services at (800) 257-9558, (212) 237-1331, or clep@info.collegeboard.org.

Refund Policy

Individuals who fail to reschedule by the registration deadline (at least 48 hours before the scheduled appointment) or fail to show up for their appointment will need to schedule another testing appointment and repay the test administration fee. Refunds will only be issued (minus a $3.50 fee charged by RegisterBlast) if notice is given in writing (e-mail credentialingcenter@odu.edu) at least 48 hours before your appointment time.

CLEP ticket refund questions must be directed to CLEP.
