Our Students

Kristina Stuhler

"I am a fourth year Marketing student with a sub-specialization in International Business in the ODU Business Doctoral Program. A Ph.D. program will always be challenging, however, I am very fortunate to have had inspiring and supportive professors and advisors throughout the program. The professors teaching our Ph.D. seminars are very knowledgeable in their fields and active in their research areas. Interaction with these professors have led to exciting research ideas as well as shared enthusiasm for their specific topic areas ranging from expertise in methodology to up-to-date knowledge on current marketing topics."

Altaf Merchant

Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Marketing, Milgard School of Business, University of Washington Tacoma.

"Though I accomplished a lot as a brand manager, launching global innovations and campaigns, I felt that I wanted to make a lasting contribution to marketing. This gnawed on my heart and I experienced my calling as an academic. This fire to learn was fueled at the ODU Ph.D program. The memorable and animated discussions with distinguished professors (such as John B. Ford, Kiran Karande, and Anusorn Singhapakdi) made coursework invigorating and enlightening. From the very beginning, Dr. Ford and other professors emphasized the need to work on multiple research projects, with the dissertation serving as the anchor point, with the goal to create a sustainable research agenda. I was continually inspired to make a mark on the state of knowledge and create an international scholarly identity. I was also given an opportunity to teach a variety of courses which helped me hone my craft as an educator. At ODU I published with all my professors and nurtured lifelong friendships with many of them. I can confidently vouch that the training I received was cutting edge and world class. I was given the opportunity to work with distinguished scholars from other universities (such as Professors Douglas West, Mike Latour and Adrian Sargeant), develop as a reviewer of other's scholarly work, undertake consulting assignments, and travel to academic conferences and consortia to present my research. Very early on, I learned the power of engaging and serving students, faculty, staff, academic and business communities."
