Overview
The ODU Academic Resource Center is a centralized learning space (physical and virtual) that provides students with opportunities to practice and enhance their learning outside of the classroom. Students may meet with an academic coach to improve self-management and learning skills, request a custom workshop for their small group, access one of our CORE resources, or get connected with other support services like tutoring, mentoring, and advising.

History
The Academic Resource Center, formerly called the Learning Center, was formed in Spring 2018, when newer academic initiatives prompted the restructuring of staff and services.
The University moved toward a more decentralized model for tutoring, in which subject-specific tutoring centers were developed within the colleges. The Academic Resource Center emerged as the leader in not only promoting tutoring services across campus, but as coordinators of tutoring who facilitated requests for tutoring, maintained the tutoring central website, and sought other resources to enhance the tutoring landscape at ODU.
In addition, the Academic Resource Center grew its existing services - peer academic coaching, peer mentoring, workshops & resources - and also facilitated tutor/mentor training. Departments and programs across the institution request tutor/mentor training from our center.
What began with a few desks in an open space of the 2nd floor in the Student Success Center, grew into a full physical room, Room 2016A, in the Student Success Center.
As of Fall 2021, the Academic Resource Center moved to an even larger space within the Learning Commons @ Perry Library.
