Degree Works Updates
Reminders: Degree Works Upgrade and Resources
Please note that Degree Works will still be available during the annual system shutdown this weekend; however, as Degree Works pulls information from many of the systems that will be shut down, student audits are always affected. Common behaviors include credits disappearing temporarily or all courses moving to the "General Electives" area. Please expect some temporary disruption. If issues persist after the July 4th holiday, please email itshelp@odu.edu to open a ticket.
Also, we are still working with ITS and Ellucian to address various issues that are occurring as a result of the recent upgrade. We appreciate your patience as we try to work through these issues.
As a reminder, the Degree Works team created instructional videos to assist with the transition:
- Basic Overview video (student view, about 5.5 minutes): ODU Media or YouTube: This video reviews the basic layout of the new Degree Works from a student’s point of view.
- Tools and Features video (student view, about 32 minutes): ODU Media or YouTube: This video reviews the tools and features of the new Degree Works, such as the combined What-If/Future Classes tool, student planner, and expand/collapse feature, from a student’s point of view. As with any upgrade, some functionality has been added, some has been removed, some has stayed the same, and some has changed just slightly. If you do not wish to view the entire video, time stamps in the video details indicate which topics are covered and when.
To ensure the best viewing experience for the YouTube videos, click the Settings (gear) icon at the bottom of the video, then Quality, and choose 720p.
Instructions for Questions and Technical Issues
The Degree Works FAQ page has also been updated to include information on the new system. If you have any questions after viewing the instructional videos and consulting the FAQ page please email degreeworks@odu.edu.
If you experience login or functionality issues, please try the following first: Sign completely out of Degree Works (using the “Sign Out” link, located under your name when you hover over it on the upper right corner). Clear your browser history/cache. Close your browser. Reopen the browser and sign back in. Incognito/private browsing mode may also work.
If you are experiencing consistent issues viewing/logging into Degree Works (or staying logged in), please contact itshelp@odu.edu for assistance. If you are referred back to the Registrar’s Office or to the Degree Works Team for login issues, please let me know directly (salexand@odu.edu), as this should not occur.
