"In the Room: Women of Color Doulas in a Time of Crisis" with Jennifer Nash

Wednesday, November 8th from 3:00-4:30 pm

Webb Center, Portsmouth Room

Dr. Jennifer Nash is the Jean Fox O'Barr Women's Studies Distinguished Professor at Duke University. She is the author of The Black Body in Ecstasy: Reading Race, Reading Pornography, Black Feminism Reimagined: After Intersectionality, and Birthing Black Mothers.

Join Dr. Nash as she explores the work of women of color doulas laboring in Chicago in an era where doulas are increasingly hailed as the workers who can save black mother's lives. Dr. Nash's analysis draws on twenty-three interviews she conducted in 2018 with birth doulas working in the Chicago metropolitan area.

This event is proudly sponsored by the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, the Department of Women's and Gender Studies, and the Women's and Gender Equity Center.
