Mental Health Training

Old Dominion University has adopted an online conversation simulation, At-Risk for Faculty & Staff.  Learn to notice signs of distress, use techniques to discuss our concerns, and, if necessary, refer students to appropriate resources.

At-Risk for Faculty & Staff lets you practice these challenging conversations at your own pace through role-play with virtual students. In a national study of effectiveness, this simulation has been shown to increase the number of student referrals to counseling. It is also listed in the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s Best Practices Registry and under review for inclusion in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices.
Go to: ODU.kognito.com, you may also access from the Office of Counseling Center website: https://ww1.odu.edu/counselingservices

Choose "Employee" option and click on your role

To gain access to Kognito At-Risk Mental Health for Faculty & Staff click on:

    • User Type: Select “Employee”
    • Role: Select the best fit to your employment type.

The training can be completed in multiple sittings and your progress will be saved.  It will take approximately 20 minutes to complete the first simulation, but you are highly encouraged to continue through the other two interactions which takes an additional 20-30 minutes of your time.  A completion certificate will be sent to you after completion.
