College of Arts & Letters Summer Research Grants
The College Summer Research Grant program offers modest intramural support for faculty members' research, scholarship, and creative activity. Proposals are reviewed by the College's Research and Publications Committee, with final selections being made by the dean. The Call for Proposals (CFP) is distributed in the spring semester, shortly after the results of the Office of Research's Summer Research Fellowship Program (SFRP) are announced. The proposal format for the two programs is very similar, and faculty are strongly encouraged to apply for the SFRP and treat the College program as a "second chance." Faculty members who receive College Summer Research Grants may accept teaching or other significant paid work only if they can demonstrate that they will devote eight uninterrupted weeks of activity toward the summer research project. The number of awards offered and the amount varies by year depending on the available funds, but in recent years the grants have been $3,000 with faculty having some flexibility to allocate differing amounts to stipends and expenses. See each year's formal CFP for further details.
