The Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH) Post-Licensure program is designed for students who have completed a certificate or associate degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and desire to continue their education toward a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. The program provides an opportunity for the licensed dental hygienist to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for expanded career opportunities in education, oral health promotion, research, community and public health, management, and marketing. This program also provides a strong foundation for graduate studies.

Available online or as a hybrid of online and on-campus courses
Students can take classes part-time or full-time
Once accepted into the program, students can start Fall, Spring, or Summer semester
Eligible BSDH Post-Licensure students may apply to the linked bachelor’s to master’s program. This program allows gifted undergraduate students the opportunity to take up to 12 credit hours of graduate coursework that may be applied to both degrees.

MEDIAN SALARY
Clean teeth and examine oral areas, head, and neck for signs of oral disease. May educate patients on oral hygiene, take and develop x rays, or apply fluoride or sealants.
This course is designed to explore various educational concepts, principles and methods of teaching for adults. Students will learn to present educational information to a diverse client population, in a variety of settings, in an ethical and professional manner. Topics include, but are not limited to, objectives, planning, implementation and evaluation of instruction; instructional strategies; delivery models; presentation skills; and techniques for communicating health information. Prerequisites: admission to the dental hygiene program.
Designed to develop skills in scientific methods, evidence based decision making and critical analysis of research findings. Emphasis on types of research, levels of evidence, problem selection and hypothesis writing, research planning and design, data collection and measuring techniques, analysis and interpretation of data, research proposal writing and computer application. A written research proposal is required for graduate credit.|offered fall) Prerequisites: STAT 130M.
This course examines the concept, global impact, and trends in telehealthcare technology on the client/patient, multidisciplinary practitioners, and various healthcare systems. Emphasis is on effective evidence-based decision making to reduce errors in patient care, promote care in remote or underserved geographical areas, and the ability to retrieve and evaluate healthcare information that improves access to quality, cost effective health care. (Offered spring, summer) Prerequisites: permission of the instructor.
Students entering the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene program in Dental Hygiene, Post-Licensure should meet the minimum university admission requirements (Undergraduate Admission)
Persons seeking admission to the BSDH Post-Licensure Online Program must complete both an online application to Old Dominion University as a degree-seeking student and a supplemental application to the Dental Hygiene Program through ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service (DHCAS).

Two letters of recommendation
Current resume
Photocopy of current RDH license
Photocopy of current CPR certification (upload this in the section titled "other")
Photocopy of National Board Dental Hygiene Examination Results
